Diamond, golden and silver jubilees celebrated

Several couples celebrating landmark wedding anniversaries attended a special thanksgiving Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday night at which they renewed their wedding vows.

The celebrant and main organiser of the annual ceremony was Killarney Parish Administrator, Fr Kieran O’Brien, who presented specially inscribed certificates to each couple to mark the occasion.

Husband and wives were in attendance who were celebrating their 60th, 55th and 40th anniversaries as well as nine couples celebrating their golden jubilees and one marking their silver jubilee.

It is a particularly special year for Jim and Mairead Morgan from Ferndale Avenue who are celebrating their 60th or diamond anniversary.

Jimmy and Moira O’Gorman from Dunrine, Tralee Road, were celebrating their 57th anniversary and Miceál and Bridie Murphy of Lissvigeen have been married for 55 years.

Golden jubilee couples celebrating were Tim and Mary McCarthy, Upper Ballycasheen, James and Sheila Morris, Pinewood Estate, Michael and Joan Murphy, Upper Lewis Road, John and Marie Doyle, Woodford Manor, Pat and Margaret O’Doherty, Cahernane Meadows, John and Mary Mangan, Milleen, Kilcummin, Denis and Kathleen Doolan, Mill Road, Michael and Bernadette Foley, Ballaugh and Pat and Brid Casey, Crosstown.

Dermot and Bridge O’Mahoney, St Brendan’s Terrace were celebrating their 47th anniversary and those celebrating 40 years of marriage were Pater and Sheila Scott, Artane, Dublin, Donie and Marie Murphy, Dalton’s Avenue, Gene and Margaret Moriarty, Lackabane and John and Alma O’Sullivan, Glenbeigh while John and Geraldine O’Mahony, Lackabane Village, were celebrating their silver jubilee.

After the Mass the couples were guests of Fr O’Brien and Bishop Ray Browne in the Bishop’s House where refreshments were provided and a special jubilee wedding cake was cut by 57th anniversary couple Jimmy and Moira O’Gorman.
