Design work underway for disability toilets at library

Design work is being finalised for the installation of disabled
toilets at Killarney Library

Toilet facilities suitable for people with disabilities are to be provided at Killarney Library.

The issue has been on the agenda for some time with Cllr Marie Moloney raising the matter and highlighting the need at several meetings.

She had the issue back on the agenda at this month’s meeting of Killarney Municipal District Council and she said all public buildings – not just libraries – should be providing such facilities.

Cllr Marie Moloney: Repeated calls

Council officials said design work is being finalised at present for the installation of disabled toilets at Killarney Library with a view to advancing these works during 2025 or early 2026.

Cllr Moloney also asked the local authority to develop a green area at O’Kelly’s Villas into a sensory area for residents to enjoy.

“It is presently a scrubland that is totally uneven and overgrown with the remnants of seating encased in hedgerow and ivy,” she said.

Officials said the overgrowth will be cleared and a meeting will be arranged with the residents of O’Kelly’s Villas to discuss the green area.
