
AFTER an encouraging day yesterday, when just six further Covid-19 linked deaths were confirmed, there was another spike in fatalities this Tuesday with 68 additional deaths reported.
50 of the deaths occurred in February, 15 occurred in January and two date back to December. There is one death where the date of death is still under investigation.
The median age of those who died was 85 years and the age range of those that died was from 43 to 96 years.
Encouragingly, however, the number of new cases reported – 556 – was the lowest recorded in any given day since the start of the year.
10 additional positive infections were confirmed in Kerry today, bringing the number reported in the county over the past 14 days to 208.
There have now been 3,752 Covid-19 related deaths in the Republic of Ireland with the number of diagnosed cases rising to 204,940.
Early this morning, 1,104 patients were being treated for coronavirus complications in hospitals with 182 in intensive care. There have been 54 additional Covid-19 related hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
Of the cases notified today 284 are male and 268 are female and 60 per cent are under 45 years of age. The median age of those affected is 39 years old.
163 of today’s cases were in Dublin, 45 in Limerick, 38 in Galway, 34 in Cork and 29 in Waterford with the remaining 247 cases spread across 20 other counties, including the 10 in Kerry.
