A familiar Kerry voice is ringing out over the airwaves every week as part of a popular radio breakfast show.
Deacon Thady O’Connor is now featuring on Radio Maria every Thursday morning, starting at 8.30am.
The well-known singer and musician is currently running a series on family, marriage and the sacrament of matrimony through conversations with members of the Marriage Encounter organisation.

One of Deacon Thady’s recent guests was his Kilcumminn neighbour and All-Ireland minor football winner Seán O’Leary who recounted his incredible recovery from a near fatal road traffic accident that occurred when he was travelling home from a Kerry v Tipperary Munster Championship tie game in Thurles in 2021.
Despite suffering horrific injuries which necessitated the insertion of a number of steel pins in both legs, Seán returned playing football for his club and college.
Listeners are also provided with an opportunity to engage with the programme with comments, questions or suggestions.
Thady O’Connor was ordained a deacon by Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne, in 2017, after completing a four-year formation programme in St Patrick’s College, Thurles. He was then assigned to minister in Castleisland parish and the extended pastoral area.
Radio Maria, which can be found on Saorview 210 and on the official app, is staffed by professional and volunteer staff and it operates as a not-for-profit, non-commercial, internet-streaming radio station.
Though not directly connected with the Roman Catholic Church, it operates as an instrument of the Church and as a tool for evangeliation.
“Our aim is to bring Christ into every Irish home through home-produced programmes that serve the spiritual, educational and social needs of listeners – both at home and abroad,” Radio Maria’s mission statement states.
