David reflects on another stunning year

David Clifford: Another stunning season

Whatever way the Kerry County Final will end up this Sunday, David Clifford is still the clear frontrunner to be crowned footballer of the year.

Whether raging favourites East Kerry win, lose or draw against quietly confident Mid Kerry, at Austin Stack Park, the gifted Fossa attacker is still the bookies’ favourite for the player of the year gong.

David himself, of course, would much rather get his hands back on the Bishop Moynihan Cup and on the Intermediate Championship crown with his beloved Fossa a fortnight later, but there is no doubt that the greatest player of the modern era would be a very popular player of the year recipient.

This year’s winner will be revealed on November 17 and Clifford will face stiff opposition from Dublin midfielder Brian Fenton and versatile Derry star Brendan Rogers.

Followinbg another stunning year with Kerry,East Kerry and Fossa, the bookies expect the Kerryman to triumph, however, quoting him at odds of 1/2 with Fenton at 2/1 and Rogers at a generous 12/1.

If David succeeds he would become the first player to win back-to-back footballer of the year awards and he also previously won the young player of the year in 2018.
