Birthday boy David gets skipper’s armband

DAVID Clifford will captain Kerry for 2020, KillarneyToday.com can confirm.

The Fossa star, who turns 21 this Wednesday, received the perfect birthday present when he was given the nod to lead the side in the National League and the Championship after being nominated by the East Kerry Board.

The divisional board has the right to nominate the skipper, in keeping with the long-standing tradition favoured by clubs in the county.

The nomination is due to be ratified next Monday night at the county committee meeting.

Despite his young age, Clifford is already established as one of the superstars of the GAA and supporters have been known to pay into matches just to see him in action.

With two All-Ireland colleges medals already in his pocket, he set Croke Park alight with a mesmerising performance, scoring 4-4, in the All-Ireland minor final against Derry in 2017 and he made his senior debut for the green and gold in 2018.

He also won his first senior county championship medal with East Kerry toward s the close of 2019.

The brilliant forward will now have the honour of leading Kerry out on to Croke Park for Saturday night’s NFL clash with All-Ire;and champions Dublin.
