A BUMPER table quiz and charity auction has been planned to help in a fundraising initiative involving two leading Killarney business people.

The date of the event has been changed due to unforeseen circumstances and it will now take place in The Laurels Lounge on Wednesday, October 19 at 8.00pm sharp.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce President, Kate O’Leary, and Cllr Niall Kelleher will both spend a night sleeping out to help raise funds and awareness of the homelessness crisis that is sweeping the country.

Their involvement is part of Focus Ireland campaign which will see prominent business interests and public representatives sleeping out, in either Cork or Dublin, on October 21 to shine a light on the homelessness crisis.

They have both set a target of raising at least €5,000 for the cause and, to help them achieve that goal, they will host the brainstorming quiz and auction.

In addition to some great prize for the winners, there will also be a super auction at which a number of valuable and impressive prizes will come under the auctioneer’s gavel.

Kate O’Leary remarked: “Family homelessness has reached historic proportions in Ireland with more than 2,100 children living in emergency homeless accommodation, often unable to get to school, rarely getting a home cooked meal and sinking into darkness,.

“I don’t want to accept this as today’s landscape in Ireland so I’m joining my peers to make a difference,” added the progressive head of the town’s business body.

Focus Ireland works to provide housing and homeless services to young people, adults, children and families who are homeless or vulnerable. The organisation works to make its vision – everyone has a right to a place they can call home – a reality for thousands of people every year.
