Dancers step into the world championships

Competitors from the Áine Murphy Dance Academy in Rathmore make quite a mark at the Irish National Championships which were held in the INEC at the weekend.

Marcus O’Sullivan won the under 10 boys’ category and Caoimhe O’Halloran triumphed in the under 16 girls’ event and both were crowned national champions.

They have also qualified for the world championships which will take place in Glasgow next April and thy will be joined by Grace O’Sullivan who secured a qualifying spot in the under 11 and Caoimhe Cawley in the under 14 girls’ competitions.

While Isabelle O’Sullivan is too young to compete at next year’s world championships, she achieved great success in the under nine girls’ category with some fabulous dancing.

Dancers from the school also competed in team events and had great success.

Alexandria Scally and Réidín Ní Laoithe were crowned champions in the under nine two-hand competition while Grace O’Sullivan and Laura Cronin won the two-hand competition at under 11 level.

In addition, Alexandria and Réidín were joined by Ceallaigh Fahy Murphy and Kaitlin Cronin to win the under nine four-hand competition

There is no rest for any of these dancers as they are back to class to prepare for the All-Scotland, the Great Britain and the Munster Championships over the coming months.
