Dancers shine at Munster Championship finals

THE Aine Murphy Academy of Irish Dancing, based in Gneeveguilla, certainly left its print on the 50th anniversary of the Munster Championships which were held in the INEC in Killarney over the weekend.
Over the course of the four days, they clinched two solo championships, courtesy of Saoirse Clifford at under 12 level and Sean Slemon at under 16.

The under 12 girls’ ceilí team also retained the title they won last year.  Further to these amazing achievements, the Academy had a total of 14 dancers who made the podium in their respective competitions in some world class competitions. A total of 14 dancers also qualified to compete at the world championships in Greensboro, North Carolina next Easter.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement as it’s the most prestigious competition in the dancing calendar,” said a thrilled Aine.

Not to be outshone by the children, eight parents were joint winners of the adult charity ceilí competition and received a cheque for €400 which they will present to the Kerry branch of Cystic Fibrosis in the coming weeks.
