KERRY County Council’s is to facilitate free workshops for young dance enthusiasts, aged between six and 12 years old, and in the process it will foster a greater understanding of and appreciation for animal life.
Curated by Kerry dancer-in-residence, Catherine Young, as part of Creative Ireland’s Cruinniú na nÓg, the project is titled Our Animal Grooves and it invites children to discover the animal world through dance and movement. Children will be encouraged to dance, imagine and look closely at living creatures from different environments.
Through the art of dance, the children will explore animals small and large, from the sea, farms, zoos, jungles and beyond.
At the end of the series of workshops, a film collating the collective creativity of the participants will be shared on June 12 as part of Cruinniú na nÓg which has been designated a day of free creativity for children and young people.
The workshops will be facilitated by dancer, choreographer and educator Monica Muňoz. Originally from Barcelona and now based in Ireland, she has worked as a dancer throughout Europe for over 20 years and she is passionate about facilitating dance for all ages having created dance programmes for all generations.
Classes will be delivered over Zoom over a four-week period, on Thursday afternoons, commencing in early May.
