It was a day of presentations for members of the Deerpark Pitch Killarney club at the national pitch and putt convention in Templemore, Co Tipperary last Saturday.
Damien Fleming was honoured as Ireland’s number one player for 2023 and Jason O’Connor was honoured by Pitch and Putt Ireland after stepping down after 10 years as an national executive committee officer.
This ends a period of 13 years of club members serving on the NEC between 2011 and 2024 with Damien, Jason and Ger O’Connor all serving on the national board in that time.
Damien dedicated his top player award – his fourth time in five years winning the accolade – to Jason in recognition of being there to support him and seeing him on the way to the top.

Professional journalist JJason served for nine years as the association’s communications and press officer between 2014 and 2023 and was honorary secretary for the final year prior to stepping down last Saturday.
Elsewhere, at the Kerry County Board AGM, Christy O’Mahony of Tralee succeeded John McGrath of Deerpark as chairman after John decided to step down following two years in the role.
Jason O’Connor stepped down as secretary of the same organisation after six years but remains on as PRO for the coming year.
Audrey O’Mahony is the new competitions secretary with Orla O’Mahony also joining the board as a non-portfolio officer.
The other officers are Jason Cregan, Tralee (secretary), Seán O’Brien, Deerpark (treasurer), Vince Barry, Castleisland (registrar) and Gearóid Cronin, Deerpark (under 16 officer).
