It’s fight night – and by the close of the day the Kingdom Warrior could reign supreme.

Kevin Cronin from Milltown will battle it out with teak-tough Jamie Morrissey from Limerick for the vacant but coveted Celtic Light-Heavyweight title this Saturday night and a huge Kerry contingent will pack the Europa Hotel in Belfast for the showdown.

Both fighters are undefeated as professional boxers but after tonight’s scheduled eight round bout, there can only be one winner and one champion.

Stylish Cronin (26) aims to become Kerryman to win a professional boxing title and he hopes to be in a position to carry the prize belt back to Milltown when the business of the evening is done.

In the condition of his life, Cronin comfortably made the cut at yesterday’s weigh-in and although he enters the contest as the underdog, he is confident that he is more than capable of registering a big win.

He has spent the past eight weeks in an intensive training regime, which included a conditioning camp in Dublin during which he put in the hard yards.

It will be Cronin’s first time involved in an eight-round contest but he reckons he has the work done and, fitness wise, he’s in tip-top shape.

One of his great strengths is his stamina and ability to last the pace no matter how gruelling the battle is and that will stand to him tonight against the current Super Middle-Weight champion who is two years his elder.

“On Saturday night it’s all on the line and I look to make history and finally grace this county with a professional boxing title,” Kevin said.

“It’s very exciting, I’m up for it and I can’t wait,” he added.

The Celtic belt up for grabs is open to boxers from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, France and Spain

Tonight’s fight will be live-streamed on Cronin’s Facebook page from 8.00pm to 10.00pm and in Jimmy O’Brien’s Bar in Killarney who have sponsored the boxer so there is sure to be a terrific match night atmosphere in the College Street hostelry.
