YOUNG footballers from Dr Crokes in Killarney overcame a strong challenge from clubs from several other counties to clinch the coveted Féile Under 14 title in Kildare.
Opposition from Dublin, Cork, Tyrone, Kildare, Derry, Down and Galway provided a stern test but the young black and amber brigade had too much guile and craft for them all.
Victories at key stages of the tournament set the scene for a semi-final clash with Cork’s Nemo Rangers and, after successfully negotiating that hurdle, the Killarney boys outsmarted Leixlip in the Plate decider.
“We are delighted to have had such great ambassadors for the club on the playing field,” said Dr Crokes PRO Aoife Cronin.
Harry O’Neill, Kevin Smith, Ger O’Connor and Ger O’Shea were the mentors that masterminded the success and parents and family members travelled in force to cheer them on.
