A SEARCH for a man wanted for questioning in connection with a violent hot oil attack on a woman in a Killarney fast food restaurant four years ago is now focused on the UK and further afield, KillarneyToday.com has learned.

A  woman working at a Chinese takeaway suffered extensive burn injuries to her back and neck after boiling oil was thrown at her on Christmas Eve 2016.

The shocking afternoon attack, which occurred in a premises on Rock Road, resulted in a Chinese national in her early 30s being rushed to hospital for treatment. She was initially treated at University Hospital Kerry before being transferred to a specialist burns unit in Cork.

Police in the UK are now assisting gardai in Killarney in the case by publicly seeking information on the whereabouts of another Chinese national, Yin Di Pan, who they would like to interview in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Flor Murphy

An appeal featuring his photograph was broadcast on this week’s Crimewatch Roadshow Live on BBC One.

The appeal said detectives in Killarney know that 51-year-old Yin Di Pan has links in the city of Birmingham and he may now be working as a chef in a Chinese restaurant in the UK.

It is also possible that he has been visiting casinos and police have asked the public to report any sightings. Yin Di Pan is known to be missing two front teeth but he wears dentures.

Killarney Garda Superintendent, Flor Murphy, said they are determined to bring the person they believe was involved in the boiling attack to justice and they have sought support from police in the UK and further afield. Gardai believe Mr Di Pan might be able to assist them in their investigation.

“This was a very serious assault on a young woman and we are still actively investigating the matter,” he told KillarneyToday.com.

“We have brought the investigation as far as we can in this country at this stage and we are hoping the appeal in the UK will lead to the information we require to advance our enquiries,” Supt Murphy said.

Anybody with any information that might be of assistance is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6631222.
