An Bord Pleanála has confirmed the compulsory purchase order for land that will allow a new inner relief road to be constructed in Killarney town centre.
The road will run from the top of High Street through Bohereen-Na-Goun and Monsignor O’Flaherty Road on to New Street where it will exit near Dunnes Stores and the Killarney Enterprise Centre on St Mary’s Terrace.
Cllr Brendan Cronin said, thankfully, the project is progressing as it has been in the pipeline for years and it has been held up for ages.
“Hopefully, it will ease some of the congestion in the town centre and, to be honest, it can’t make it any worse,” he told KillarneyToday.com.
“At least it will people coming out of Dunnes Stores another option if they are heading in the direction of St Anne’s Road.
“They can come up through the streets, they can opt to come up New Road or they can go on the new relief road. Having another option can only be good,” Cllr Cronin added.
The road will comprise of a 120-meter section of new and upgraded road to form a vehicular and pedestrian link between New Street and Monsignor O’Flaherty Road.
A copy of the CPO and the map of the plans may be inspected between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, at the Roads and Transportation Department, Room 115, Kerry County Council, County Buildings, Tralee or the Killarney Municipal District Office, Town Hall, Killarney.
