EVERYTHING Kerry touched at McHale Park, Castlebar on Saturday night turned to gold.
And the Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s side delivered a performance against home side Mayo that was every bit as golden as the jerseys on their backs.
The reaction to the Kingdom’s stunning new away strip – designed by former star Paul Galvin with O’Neills – has been largely enthusiastic but, as always, there have been a few exceptions.
The retro style green and gold home was an instant hit and the all-gold away kit is every bit as groundbreaking and pleasing to the eye.
The classy jersey, with old-style lines half-way down the sleeves, has a vintage theme and it is paired with black togs with gold stripes to give it a look that wouldn’t look out of place in the Premiership.
The Kerry branch of the GAA was founded in 1888 and to mark the 130th anniversary the new jersey was commissioned.
The Kerry County Board remarked: “The away jersey is amazing, nothing like we’ve seen before”.
Kerry attacker Darran O’Sullivan said: “If you like the home one, you’ll love the away one! #Unreal”.
Kieran Donaghy’s verdict was: “Tis a tasty jersey in fairness” while long-serving defender Marc Ó Se described it as “pure class”.
The verdict from sports website Balls.ie was gushing: “Not just a Kerry jersey, a wonderfully vintage Kerry jersey”.
