A CHARITY county music weekend, organised by a Killarney man who lost his wife to cancer, has raised an impressive €20,000 to help fight the disease.
The Eileen Rice Country Against Cancer memorial weekend took place in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney and the charities to benefit were the Kerry-Cork Health Link Bus and Marymount Hospice in Cork.
Eileen’s husband, Jerry Moriarty, said she loved dancing and country music and she kept up her interest while she fought illness for two and a half years, before she passed away in 2016.
“I wanted to run the event to celebrate her life while giving back to the people who helped her. One of her mantras was that ‘life is for living’ and the country music weekend celebrated all that she loved,” said Jerry.
The three-day music event, which is now an annual event, featured many top country music stars including Mike Denver, Trudi Lawlor and Michael English.
