Countdown to 54321 Challenge

Picture 4IT will involve teams of five people, over four days, embarking on three cycles and two climbs and it’s all in aid of one great cause.

This year’s 54321 Challenge volunteers will commence the first leg of their marathon journey from Killarney on Thursday, September 10 when they cycle 180km around the Ring of Kerry.

They will climb Carrauntoohil on the Friday and on Saturday they will be back on their bikes to cycle to Tralee to scale Mount Brandon.

On Sunday then will cycle from Dingle to Killarney and they will finish their gruelling four-day challenge at the South Kerry Ploughing Championships and Harvest Show in Fossa.

All proceeds this year will go the Kerry-Cork Health Link Bus and there will be three teams of five involved in the challenge.

To help in the fundraising drive, the team will host a novel tug-of-war contest this Sunday at Killarney Racecourse. Local businesses are being invited to test their strength and their skills against each other and compete for the 54321 Challenge Cup.

The entry fee is €100 for teams of eight with a minimum of three females per team. The event will be part of the Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce barbecue and the fun will commence at 2.30pm.
