Could Pat’s chat be a Late Late date?

Pat Spillane is being offered at odds of 250/1to be the next Late Late Show host

The bookies are offering generous odds on Pat Spillane taking over from Ryan Tubridy as host of the Late Late Show but, hardly surprisingly, the fast-talking Kerry GAA legend is given a better chance of landing the plum role than the likes of politicians Bertie Ahern and Enda Kenny, sports presenters Gary Lineker and Des Cahill and Westlife’s Nicky Byrne.

BoyleSports are offering a price of 250/1 on the former Sunday Game panelist taking the Friday night hotseat and wagers can also be placed on the Two Johnnies, Panti Bliss, comedian PJ  Gallagher, Eamon Dunphy, rugby personality Donncha O’Callaghan and Vogue Williams with Daithí Ó Sé the only other Kerry person in the running, with the Rose of Tralee presenter at odds of 66/1.

Dáithí Ó Sé is being quoted at 66/1

More realistically, polished broadcaster Claire Byrne remains the bookies’ favourite at 6/5 but BoyleSports have slashed the odds on funny man Patrick Kielty taking over, from 16/1 to just 7/4.

Another serious contender is popular journalist and radio presenter Sarah McInerney at 3/1 and others towards the business end of the betting, although at significantly longer odds, include Angela Scanlon, Ciara Doherty, Jennifer Zamparelli, Kathryn Thomas, Tommy Tiernan, Katie Hannon and Doireann Garrihy.

The almost endless list of BoyleSports contenders also features Brendan O’Connor, Oliver Callan, Carl Mullen, Lottie Ryan, Maura Derrane, Claire Brock, Lucy Kennedy, Catriona Perry, Mairead Ronan and Ray D’Arcy.

The betting market, which has been in play since Tubridy made the shock announcement he will be stepping down this May, has the bookies scratching their heads after numerous names have flip-flopped into favourite position for the top job at Montrose.
