A HOTSHOT basketball team from the US will challenge a Killarney selection this Thursday evening to raise funds for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.
The St Ambrose University squad, from Iowa, will take on a Killarney Cougars selection at the Presentation Gym in Killarney at 7.00pm.
The Fighting Bees are on a 10-day visit to Ireland and the 40-strong group will be based in Killarney for the duration with coach and Director of Athletics, Ray Shovlain, in charge of operations.
This season to date St Ambrose University is enjoying the best start since 2014-2015 with the only loss from five outings to a NAIA top 10 ranked team Bethel Indiana.
Bees star John Kerr was named the CCAC Conference Freshmen Player of the Year last year and they return with the entire squad from last season where they had a 11-3 record at home. The Bees have a very young team so the Cougars senior men’s will be expecting a very testing time.
St Ambrose are returning for a third time to Killarney having previously visited in 2010 and 2015 and they will be officially welcomed on the night by Mayor John Sheehan.
The game will be played on Thanksgiving with proceeds going to the worthy local cause. Doors at the Pres Gym will open at 6.30pm.
