PETROL and diesel prices in Killarney have increased substantially in the past week, rising by as much as almost five cent per litre for diesel and up to four cent per litre of petrol at some local filling stations, KillarneyToday.com can reveal.
A spot check at 10 premises on Wednesday evening confirmed that all had hiked their charges for both diesel and petrol since the last KillarneyToday.com survey on Wednesday of last week.
Our latest on-the-spot inspection shows that the price of diesel had risen by between one cent and 4.7 cent per litre – depending on where you shopped – while petrol prices rose by between two cent and four cent.
The price of diesel per litre rose by 4.7 cent in one outlet, four cent in three, three cent in one, two cent in three and one cent in two.
Petrol prices jumped by four cent in four premises, three cent in two and two cent in four.
With greater competition at the pumps in Killarney, there is clearly better value on offer for motorists prepared to shop around.
The KillarneyToday.com Wednesday spot check revealed that Hegarty’s on Muckross Road and Tesco, Killarney Park were the cheapest for petrol at 141.9 while the best value for diesel was Tesco Killarney Park at 130.9.
Five filling stations – Topaz, The Reeks and Topaz, The Rock, both on Rock Road, Foley’s Inver in Fossa, Texaco at the Cork Road Roundabout and Topaz on Park Road – were all charging 145.9 for petrol and the most expensive for a litre of diesel was Topaz Park Road at 136.6.
Our consumer check prices featured here were displayed on the pumps or on the promotional signs in the fuel station forecourts between 5.30pm and 6.00pm last Wednesday..
