A YOUNG Killarney man with a very keen interest in local history is to delve deep into Killarney’s past for what promises to be a fascinating public lecture he will deliver as part of Heritage Week.

Conor Doolan, from Kilcummin, will present an informative introduction to local industry and trades of Killarney, including tourism, at the local library on Tuesday, August 25.

It will encompass pre-historic industries such as the coppermines right up to present-day places of employment like Liebherr.

The tourism aspect will examine the industry before and after the game-changing visit of Queen Victoria to Killarney.

Conor, who conducts walking tours of Killarney, is a graduate of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and holds a BA (Hons) in Heritage Studies.

“I aim to include many trades and crafts that were once part of daily life in Killarney,” said Conor, a member of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society.

The event will commence at 7.00pm and admission is free of charge.
