Colour of lakeshore water causes concern

The water along the shoreline from Kenmare Road to Dinis is significantly discoloured

DOG owners have been warned not to allow their pets enter the water in the Lakes of Killarney and not to let them drink it.

Parents have also been advised not to allow their children to play near the water.

Mayor Brendan Cronin has contacted senior Kerry County Council officials about a very significant discoloration he observed along the lake shore, at three different locations, walking from Kenmare Road towards Dinis Cottage.

Cllr Cronin raised the matter this Monday with the council’s environmental officer, John Breen, who said tests have been carried out but the source of the discolouration is not yet known.

“I want to warn parents and dog owners to keep out of the water at these locations until it is established by the council if it’s safe,” Mayor Cronin told KillarneyToday.com.
