Dr Crokes GAA Club has paid tribute to a late great club stalwart who passed away, suddenly, on a club golf outing to Kenmare last year.
The club has commissioned and unveiled a memorial bench on the third tee-box on the course in memory of Malachy Walsh, from Tralee Road, who died on 12th August, 2023.
The inscription on a plaque reads: “In memory of Malachy Walsh: Wait until we see the lads go up the hill to the green. I’d say they are down in the dip”.

Over 50 people attended the unveiling on Saturday with Fr Tom Looney – himself a passionate black and amber member – performing a blessing.
Also in attendance were members of Malachy’s family, Kenmare Golf Club and Dr Crokes Golf Society members and the paramedics who tended to Malachy on the day he fell ill.

The club’s golf society outing in Kenmare on Saturday was also dedicated to Malachy and, at a function later in the evening, his daughter, Stephanie, presented first prize to winner David Moloney.
Malachy was the quintessential Dr Crokes person, as a player, officer, lotto organiser and a volunteer.
He had undertaken innumerable tasks that were so demanding in such a big club and when his own playing days ended, Malachy served in a number of positions, including being part of the senior management team and, later, as treasurer and the driving force behind the weekly fundraising lotto.
He worked for many years in Killarney Post Office.
