Killarney and, in particular, the pitch and putt community has paid tribute to long-time Deerpark, Killarney member and former county board chairman Gerry O’Sullivan who passed away, following an illness, in University Hospital Kerry on Sunday morning.
The county board offered its condolences to Gerry’s family, friends and colleagues on his death while Deerpark Pitch and Putt Club said the hearts of members were filled with sadness on learning of Gerry’s passing.
He was a former chairman of the club as well as serving as captain and competitions secretary.
“Gerry was a great worker on and off the course for a number of years and he was a major help to us in 2011 when we hosted the Irish International Open,” the Deerpark club said.
“To Gerry’s family we offer our immense condolences as well as his wider circle of friends from many walks of life in Killarney”.
Gerry, from Pinewood Estate in Killarney, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of University Hospital Kerry.

A sports fanatic, he was a big Gaelic football and soccer supporter and loved travelling to see Kerry teams in action.
He also had a keen interest in basketball and was very proud of the accomplishments of his grandson, Jamie O’Sullivan, with St Paul’s Scott’s Lakers in the national league.
A great conversationalist with a real knowledge of many subjects, Gerry is survived by his wife Mary (née Gardiner), son David and daughters Kerrie, Anne Margaret (Peig) and Jacqueline.
He is further survived by sons-in-law Noel McCord, Adam O’Reilly and Jason Mangan, daughter-in-law Teresa O’Neill, grandchildren Lauren, Lee, Jamie, Lily, Megan, Max, Ollie, Shannon, Ryan and Serena, his brothers Colm and Micheál, sisters Mabel, Angela and Gobnait, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Reposing at his daughter Anne Margaret O’Sullivan’s home at Stonelodge, Kilcummin, this Monday from 4.00pm to 7.00pm, the funeral will arrive at St Mary’s Cathedral on Tuesday morning at 10.00am for Requiem Mass at 10.30am.
