Club honours standout players and volunteers

The ‘full house’ sign was up early as Kilcummin GAA Club held its annual awards night at which the outstanding players of the season and the great administrators and rank-and-file members who give the club the edge were honoured.

Former club and county player Mike McCarthy – who holds four All-Ireland medals, five Munster Championship crowns and three All-Stars – was the guest of honour in the GAA clubhouse for the occasion.

The club reflected on another good year on and off the field of play and senior team trainer and former Kerry selector, James Foley, presented the various awards on the night.

The prestigious player of the year accolade went to Paul O’Shea who has worn the green and gold with distinction at all grades and is considered one of the finest young talents in the game.

Philip O’Leary was named young player of the year, Óisin O’Leary was junior player of the year and a special presentation was also made to the club’s high-achieving minor squad who won the East Kerry Championship.

Liam Fleming was named club person of the year and was presented with the Pat Joe Teahan memorial cup while Carmel O’Riordan – a great club stalwart – was formally recognised for her long service to the club.
