KILLARNEY Camera Club is inviting the public to get snap happy at an open night planned for next Thursday in the Killarney Heights Hotel, Killarney (7.30pm).

The club caters for camera lovers, nearly all amateur, with many new to photography and others with many years of experience.

“Whatever our standard, we all want to be better at photography and being in the club helps us to do that while having a lot of fun,” said PRO Billy Horan.

“People might use their camera to record events or to capture breath-taking scenes or to explore their own creative talent. Whatever their interest, if they want to do it better, they should come and join us as we all learn from each other,” he added.

The club has a wide range of activities, indoors and outside, and it organises regular outings to places of beauty, locations of historic or architectural interest, nature spots or, simply, on the streets. It also teams up with other camera clubs on weekend trips.

“We regularly cover some of Kerry’s major events, including the Ring of Kerry charity cycle. Last year we also had an exhibition in Killarney Library to showcase some of our best photographs,” said Billy.

The club meets in the Killarney Heights Hotel on every second, from September to June, with presentations by various successful photographers, displays of work by members, demonstrations on how to use camera equipment and computer software and workshop sessions.

“Some of these nights are used for competitions where we have a chance to see the best work of other members and to get a critique of our own work from more experienced members,” Billy remarked.
