
The flags at the entrance to Killarney Golf and Fishing Club are flying at half-mast to mark the sad passing of Paul Cotter, a hugely popular club personality who operated The Chapel Café, adjacent to both the Killeen course and Mahony’s Point, for several years.
A book of condolence has been opened in the clubhouse and members have been quick to leave messages of sympathy and affection for Paul who was a very colourful, witty and friendly individual.
Paul, from Sunhill, Killorglin, fell ill while on holidays, with his wife, Sheila, in Lanzarote.

He was admitted to a local hospital and transferred to a bigger facility in Gran Canaria but shortly after a GoFundMe appeal was launched to help to cover the costs of specialist medical flight to bring Paul home for treatment, he passed away in Lanzarote on November 4.
At a meeting of Killarney Municipal District Council this Wednesday, Cllr Niall Kelleher passed a vote of sympathy to Paul’s family and he said many people shared their great loss.
“Paul welcomed so many visitors to the golf club over the years, from Killarney and all over the world, and he was a great ambassador for the club and for tourism in Killarney,” he said.
Predeceased by his baby daughter Anna Marie and his parents Peggy and Steve, Paul is survived by his wife Sheila (née Griffin), daughters Celene and Emma, son Stephen, his five grandchildren, brother Billy, sisters Kathleen and Aggie, in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.
He also be deeply missed by his work colleagues and the customers of The Chapel at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club who held him in such high regard.
Reposing this Thursday evening at Flynn’s Funeral Home, Killorglin (V93PK66) from 4.00om to 6.30pm, the funeral is scheduled to arrive at to St James’s Church, Killorglin for 10.30am Requiem Mass on Friday. Burial will take place afterwards in Ardmoniel Cemetery.
