There are up to 120 posts in Kerry hospitals that have not been filled for many months due to the staffing embargo, Deputy Danny Healy-Rae has complained.

He said there are beds closed in Killarney Community Hospital and University Hospital Kerry because of the shortage of staff.

“Respite care for the elderly and for those with physical and intellectual disabilities need to be greatly enhanced because it is almost non-existent. This is what the Government has been at and what the Taoiseach is presiding over,” he said in the Dáil

Deputy Healy-Rae aid said he is aware of a woman that returned to Ireland last March after travelling abroad and the Government will not give her job back.

“Waiting times for procedures and surgeries need to be reduced. Waiting for assessments for children with autism, ADHD and mental health issues have to be dealt with urgently as early intervention is paramount for these children,” he said.

“This is what the Government has been at and what the Taoiseach is presiding over. No matter how much they try to disentangle from each other, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party are one crowd,” the Kerry TD said.
