A TOTAL of 88 houses which had been vacant in Kerry, for a variety of reasons, have been brought back into use by Kerry County Council.
The local authority has refurnished and rented out the properties as part of the 2020 Voids Stimulus Programme which has exceeded targets with 2,565 social homes brought back into use across the country.
Overall in 2020, €56.4 million was spent to bring a total of 3,607 vacant homes back into productive use within the social housing stock. This represents the highest ever yearly spend and the highest number of homes to be refurbished under the voids programme.

Welcoming the progress, Education Minister and Kerry TD, Norma Foley, said €1,474,891.50 has been invested in Kerry in the scheme that has exceeded the original target set by government.
“I’d like to commend Kerry County Council for their hard work and initiative.
At a time when Covid-19 has had a profound impact on the construction industry, it is a major boost for the people of Kerry to have these properties providing homes for those that might need them,” she said.
Minister Foley said it also provided a much-needed boost to the local builders, carpenters, painters, plumbers and electricians who helped make this project a success.
