KATIE Taylor punched her way into the hearts of Kerry fans last night when she scored an impressive victory over America’s Queen Underwood in a Tralee Boxing Club hosted promotion at the Brandon Hotel.

The world number one and Olympic gold medal winner earned an unanimous decision after four competitive rounds with the ex Pan American champion.

Seattle-native Underwood started the bout aggressively on the front foot, but classy Taylor had a very good second round and was on top in frames three and four.

The big fight – which attracted a bumper attendance – was a repeat of the 2010 world elite lightweight semi-final which Taylor won en route to gold in Barbados.

The Kerry rematch could be Underwood’s last outing in the amateur ranks as she has indicated that she is about to switch codes.

Eleven other bouts, featuring some of Ireland’s and Munster’s top young prospects, were decided on the night.
