Civic amenity sites to reopen tomorrow

The transfer station in Killarney

KERRY County Council’s five civic amenity sites – in Killarney, Kenmare, Milltown, Lios Póil and Caherciveen – will re-open this Tuesday for the receipt of domestic waste from customers without an existing door-to-door, kerbside service.

They are being re-opened for the benefit of those who need to dispose of household waste during the current period of Covid-19 restrictions.

Further to clarification issued nationally, the centres will re-open at 8.30am on Tuesday but will only receive household waste in standard black bags or material for recycling in EcoSense bags.

  • Only one occupant per car will be admitted to the sites.
  • Only cars will be admitted with no trailers or larger vehicles.
  • No electrical waste, scrap metal, cardboard, bottles or cans

Customers are asked to use credit or debit cards payments as far as possible and to be patient and to comply with public health restrictions.

Traffic control will be in place at sites to oversee physical distancing guidelines.

Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Niall Kelleher, has welcomed the decision to r-open the civic amenity sites and he encouraged members of the public to act responsibly and sensibly when using them.
