LOCKDOWN is drawing to a close and the Kerry public has been invited to avail of the opportunity to enjoy a cuppa – virtual or otherwise – to raise funds for a wonderful cause.
During the pandemic, all fundraising efforts by and for the Kerry branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Society had ceased but, sadly, there is no slowing down of the debilitating condition.
Providing support and services to Motor Neurone sufferers is now more important than ever before and Kerry branch chairman and IMNDA Ambassador, Christy Lehane, has appealed to everybody to support the Drink Tea for Motor Nurone fundraiser.
“We are asking people to put on the kettle, take out the China tea pot and get family and invite friends around to the garden for a brew and a catch-up for a great cause.
“If people do not feel comfortable having people around, they can go very modern and turn to Zoom and encourage their friends to do so also,” said Christy, from Killarney.
Some of those living with MND are themselves organising virtual tea drinking get-togethers. Participating SuperValu stores are on board again this year, providing tea bags and other materials to raise awareness of MND and staff will be asking shoppers for donations up to June 21.
Every year MND Associations across the globe mark June 21 as a special day of recognition to raise awareness and keeping focused on the search for the cause, treatment and eventual cure for the terrible disease.
“I seldom seek donations and financial support but perhaps in these Covid times, when our need, is greatest, people might be moved to help us,” Christy said.
