
A GIFTED Killarney artist has been honoured at the prestigious 2018 iBAM! Awards in Chicago.
Mary McSweeney and a host of influential Irish and Irish-Americans were celebrated for their contributions to life with the Kilcummin, Killarney native being honoured for her work in visual arts.
The gala arts awards dinner, which takes place annually in Chicago, also honoured screen star Fionnula Flanagan for performing arts, Maura O’Connell for music, Mike Leonard for media/journalism and Marian Keyes for literature.
High-profile previous winners of the award include Robert Ballagh, Brendan Gleeson, Tim Pat Coogan, Stephen Rea, Phil Coulter, Liam Neeson, Jim Sheridan, Maeve Binchy, Gabriel Byrne, Daniel O’Donnell and Frank McCourt.
A graduate of the Cork College of Art and Design, Mary had her studio in Ashe Street, Tralee and her work became well known in Kerry before she immigrated to Canada in 1984.
The oil painter, who is well known for her unique, realistic style paintings of Ireland, has her studio and gallery in Cape Cod, USA.
