Charity champs hit the hills

ADVENTUROUS charity champions took to the hills on Saturday with a dual mission of completing the task at hand and raising money for a very worthy cause.

The annual climb of Strickeen was organised by a group of Beaufort ladies to generate much-needed finance for Recovery Haven Kerry and the Kerry Hospice Palliative Care Unit and it provided an opportunity for a great fun family day out.

Since its inception the event has raised over €15,000, with €5,100 going to Recovery Haven, €9,450 going to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and the remainder of the money raised donated to the Friends of Cork University Hospital who provide a voluntary tea bar service in the oncology unit.

The 7.5km 440m trek to the summit of Strickeen, located in the Gap of Dunloe, commenced at Kate Kearney’s Cottage and when the all-action men, women and children returned, a night of entertainment was lined up to celebrate their great achievements.
