The annual 175km cycle has again broken the magical €1 million mark and the main beneficiaries this year are the Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, Recovery Haven, St Mary of the Angels, Breakthrough Cancer Support, Cúnagh Iveragh and Áras Mhuire.

The sum raised was officially announced by Kerry comedian Bernard Casey and there were hoops of sheer delight and celebration when the huge figure was revealed.

It was a special night for Brendan and Triona O’Connor, from Whitebridge Manor, who spearheaded the Team Amy cyclists in memory of their little girl, Amy, and to raise funds for Recovery Haven.

Close on 6,000 cyclists participated in the latest year’s cycle which is now in its 36th year and it has raised very close to €17 million for charitable organisations.

Organisers stress that the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle is a more than a one-day cycling event – it’s about everyday people coming together and giving generously of their time to participate, to fundraise and to get involved.

It’s this special sense of community spirit – and the dedication of over 1,200 volunteers –  that makes the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle so special.

Every year, it takes over 1,200 volunteers and just one part-time employee to make our story possible. Preparation for the event takes months of hard work, careful planning and close community collaboration.
