WITH the Leaving Cert results and CAO offers due later this month, Killarney Credit Union has announced the opening of its 2019 Bursary Award which will see four third level students attending college in the new academic year receiving financial assistance

Karena McCarthy: Youth Officer

The bursary is open to all members of Killarney Credit Union who are attending college for the first time, students studying aboard and mature students.

Karena McCarthy, Youth Officer with Killarney Credit Union, said 70 applicants for the awards were received last year and the lucky winners were Mary Murphy, Paul Murphy,Emily Cronin and Andrew Law-Braney who each received an award for €1,000.

“With the increased costs of attending third level, this bursary is a welcome financial aid for meeting those costs,” she said.

Application forms are available in all branches and on the website www.killarneycu.ie. The closing date is Friday, September 27 at 5pm and proof of acceptance on a course must be provided in advance of payment of a bursary.

“The significant cost of third level education puts phenomenal pressure on both parents and students starting or returning to third level education this year. The student registration

fee combined with monthly rent and bills, books and materials, food and day to day expenses are a significant financial burden to many families,” Karena McCarthy added.
