Champ Jamesie makes it three-in-a-row

Salute of a champion: Jamesie Casey has won three national titles in a row

A supremely talented Killarney boxer has clinched his third Irish title at the tender age of 14 – and he is now setting his sights even higher.

Jamesie’s dedication to his chosen sport is astonishing

Jamesie Casey was most impressive when winning the Boys 4 50kg championship at the National Stadium in Dublin, beating opponents from Dublin and Newry in the quarter and semi-finals before stopping Martin Sweeney of Olympic Boxing Club in Galway 50 seconds into the opening round in the final.

Jamesie, the son of James and Diane Casey of Hazlewood Drive, Killarney, is a member of the Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club where he is coached by John Coffey and his own dad, James, while the Kingdom Warrior, Kevin Cronin, has also offered some top tips and helpful advice.

It is hard-hitting Jamesie’s third national title in a row and he also took silver at the European Championships in Turkey last year.

Although based in the UK for a spell, where he trained with great determination and commitment, Jamesie is soon returning to secondary school in Killarney and he will box in the cadets in July in an attempt to clinch a place on Team Ireland to compete in a number of international tournaments.

His dedication to his chosen sport is astonishing as he trains six days a week and takes Sunday as his only rest day.
