IN the Under 17 League semi-final: Mastergeeha beat Killarney Celtic 5-4. We came out on the wrong end of a nine-goal thriller but only after a major battle between two great teams.
We drew first blood when a great Conor McCarthy free-kick into the Mastergeeha box was only partially cleared and Niall O’Donoghue pounced to fire home.
There was a touch of luck about our second, as a long kick by Conor caught the hapless keeper fractionally wrong-footed and he ended up palming it into the roof of the net.
Mastergeeha dominated possession from then on and Pa Warren and Paul O’Connor posed problems up front, but the Celtic defence held out well until Sean Twomey took a great touch and rifled home to leave it 2-1 at the break.
Celtic were just inches away from goal after a great move involving Stephen McCarthy, Jack Galvin, and Cian Casey but Mastergeeha again regained control and an equaliser, a very clever and intuitive back-heel to the net by Paul O’Connor, was well deserved.
Gearoid Kerins, who excelled for Mastergeeha, cut in on the end-line to give them the lead and his pinpoint cross was headed home by Brian Friel to put Mastergeeha 4-2 in front.
Celtic remained undaunted and a great flick on by the excellent Stephen McCarthy picked out Cathal O’Shea with a fraction of space which is all Cathal ever needs. He made it 4-3 and it was all square two minutes later as Stephen fired home himself.
With minutes remaining, Sean Twomey was fouled in the Celtic box and Gearoid Kerins blasted an unstoppable penalty.
Well done to two fine teams and our best wishes to deserved winners Mastergeeha for the final.

Mourning: Killarney Celtic joins with the wider Killarney and Kerry community in mourning the loss of Seamus Falvey, a passionate and popular member and supporter of Celtic and so many other clubs.
He was a muinteoir and a nurturer of youth whose greatest teachings were as much outside the classroom as inside it.
Seamus was someone who could bring the best out of people with a perfect combination of respect, passion and enormous humour, traits something that he shared freely with Celtic teams at all grades and with everyone that he met.
Our deepest sympathies and our best wishes in this sad time to all his family.
Lotto: The numbers drawn were 10, 11, 18 and 19 with no jackpot winner. Lucky dip winners were Eoin Moynihan c/o Mary, Tom Ashe c/o Mary and John Lyne, Cleeney. Next week’s jackpot is €1,800, with the draw in The Fáilte on Monday night.
Games: Well done to Robert Osborne and his team-mates who claimed silver at the International Children’s Games in Alkmaar, Netherlands in the soccer six-a-side tournament.
They had already beaten New Zealand 2-1 and Romania 8-2 in the group stages as well as a hard earned 4-4 draw against Poland.
In the quarter=finals they defeated Hungary 6-2, they then beat the Dutch in the semis 4-1 but were unable to overcome an excellent Croatian team in the final. Congrats to all involved.
Best 11: Well done to former Killarney Celtic and 2013 Kennedy Cup player Kacper Malinowsky who made the Under 16 Tournament Best 11 in Madrid alongside players from Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Sevilla and Juventus.
