Celtic go out but not without a fight

Killarney Celtic hitman, Peter McCarthy put his side in front

ALL good things, more often than not, come to an end.

Killarney Celtic’s journey in the FAI Junior Cup is over for this season.

Despite going 1-0 up, a polished second half performance by North End United of Wexford proved too much for Eoghan Donnellan’s side to live with and they eventually succumbed on a 1-4 scoreline.

Celtic opened the scoring when Wayne Sparling found Peter McCarthy who finished to the net at the second attempt and this was enough to give the host club the half-time lead at Celtic Park.

The advantage was not to last, however, as in the 53rd minute a deflected shot put the visitors on level terms and they took the lead in the 60th minute.

North End United, who had a number of former League of Ireland players in their line-up, pounced for two further goals, in the 86th and 89th minutes, deprived Celtic of a place in the last eight and it brought the curtain down on an otherwise super campaign.

The Killarney side will no prepare for next weekend’s in the Munster Junior Cup encounter when they travel to play Waterford Crystal.
