A NEW Lily of Killarney has been crowned.
Catriona Reen was chosen as the lucky recipient of the coveted title at a gala reception in the Killarney Heights Hotel on Friday night.
The bubbly blonde, who wore a striking red gown, hails from Rathmore and works in Allure Hair Salon on Plunkett Street, Killarney.
Catriona is following in the footsteps of her mum, Eithne (nee O’Donoghue), who won the Lily of Killarney title 30 years ago.
The Lily of Killarney pageant, now in its 41st year is organised by the Ladies Committee of Spa GAA club and it is considered one of the social highlights of the year in the town.
A total of 32 young ladies contested this year’s competition but it was Catriona that most impressed the adjudicators during the formal interview process.
She was presented with the Healy-Cronin perpetual trophy which is dedicated to the memory of two Spa GAA club stalwarts Steve Healy and Denis Cronin.
Catriona also received a €500 cash prize, various gift vouchers and a bouquet of flowers.
Catriona’s success follows hot on the heels of another young Rathmore lady being chosen as Kerry Rose for 2014.
Mary Hickey, a 26-year-old primary school teacher, will fly the green and gold flag in this year’s Rose pageant in August.
