Catherine understands the unique opportunities

Catherine Barry has been appointed Two Mile principal

THE first principal of Killarney’s new Community National School has been confirmed by Kerry Education and Training Board.

Catherine Barry has been appointed to the post with effect from this Tuesday, August 1. The school is on schedule to open on August 30 as the first school of its kind in the county under the patronage of the Kerry ETB.

Director of Schools with the ETB, Ann O’Dwyer, said Catherine has a huge amount of experience at senior management level in schools and was deputy principal in her previous school.

“She understands the unique opportunities and challenges of setting up a new school as she has been involved in this process previously,” she said.

Catherine began her teaching career in Darndale in Dublin and she moved to Kerry in 1998. She taught in various schools in Tralee before being appointed to Tralee Educate Together National School in 2002. She was involved in the setting up of that school and was appointed deputy principal shortly after. She has a commitment to multi-denominational education and to high quality teaching and learning.

“I am delighted to take up this very important position of setting up Two Mile Community National School and I am looking forward to working closely with Kerry ETB and the school community to building an inclusive school with excellence in teaching and learning,” Ms Barry said.

Two Mile School: new beginning

“As it will start off quite small, it is an incredible opportunity for any parents who want their child educated in small classes where their children will benefit from working closely with the class teacher,” she added.

Two Mile CNS will be the first primary school of its kind in Kerry and it will attract children from the wider Killarney area who are looking for a progressive model of education, rooted in the best of tradition.

As well as its unique multi-denominational ethos, having Kerry ETB as its patron is significant in terms of supporting role that the ETB can play in the management, development and expansion of the school in the future.

Two Mile CNS is currently enrolling children from junior infants to sixth class. There will be an opportunity for parents to meet the new principal and tour the school on Tuesday, August 15 at 7pm.

The principal can be contacted directly on by calling 086-4183558 or emailing cns@kerryetb.ie. Application forms can be obtained by emailing cns@kerryetb.ie or visiting Kerry ETBs website www.kerryetb.ie.
