More cash to clear river problem spot

A FURTHER allocation of €27,000 has been allocated to Kerry County Council to help clear the flood-prone river from Gortahoosh to Foiladaune in Glenflsk.

The extra funding was confirmed today by Kerry TD Danny Hea;y-Rae who said he had received the commitment from the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, Kevin Boxer Moran.

“This complete the works to clear the river and I am glad to have secured this funding for the people of this area,” Deputy Healy-Rae said.

Funding of €152,986 was confirmed late last year clear the River Flesk from Gortahoosh Bridge up to Loo Bridge in Glenfles which has long been an area prone to serious flooding.

Junior Minister Moran had visited the area last year to get a first-hand insight of the problems being encountered and he was briefed on the problems encountered by residents by TD brothers Danny and Michael Healy-Rae as well as Killarney councillors Niall Kelleher and Maura Healy-Rae and Kerry County Council Executive Engineer, David Doyle,

During that visit, in July 2017, Minister Moran said any application received from Kerry County Council seeking funding to protect homes in Foiladaune, Glenflesk, in the event of further serious flooding, would be considered favourably by the government.
