Calm after the storm for big clean up

STORM Hannah left its mark on Killarney overnight with several trees felled, roads blocked and power outages reported in a number of areas.

Trees were sent crashing to the ground on the Milltown-Listry road at Knockreigh, Loreto Road, the main N71 Killorglin-Killarney road and on the Muckross Road to Abbey Cross.

The ESB were alerted when a tree impacted om a power line at Barleymount and a tree fell in the hard shoulder on the N22 Killarney-Cork road.

Several fallen trees were reported in Listowel, Moyvane and Asdee and an electricity pole was damaged on New Line Road in Ballyheigue.

There were 10 emergency services call-outs in west Kerry and fallen trees were also reported in Kenmare, Caragh Lake, Glenbeigh, Kells and Tahilla.

The Kerry Local Coordination Team met to review the impact of Storm Hannah this morning as the comprehensive clean-up is underway on the ground.

The team has acknowledged the remarkable work of the council staff as well as Kerry Fire Service, Kerry Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána and the HSE.

The ESB, meanwhile, said over 200 customers in mid Kerry– including Firies, Killorglin, Milltown and Castlemaine – were without power for long periods with similar problems reported in Causeway, Kilmoyley and Ballybunion.

Blackouts were also reported in Rathmore, Gneeveguilla, Waterville, Dromid, Kilgarvan, Sneem, Castleisland and in areas of Killarney with the latter due to a fault at the power station in Coolcorcoran.
