A Kerry TD has asked the Minister for Health and the Department of Health to take back the running of the health service from the HSE.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said no matter how much money is being pumped into the HSE. it is worse the service is getting and an adequate service is not being provided for the people.
He said there are issues with GP care, A+E services, a reduction in SouthDoc services, massive waiting lists, a shortage of hospital beds, people waiting for operations and cataract procedures.
The Independent TD added that there has been a continuous reduction of the ambulance service since 2012 and there are also difficulties securing home helps, long-term stay beds in hospitals and residential care for people with physical, intellectual disabilities and, mental health issues.
“I have also outlined that no recognition has been given to the fact that there has been a massive increase in the population in Kerry with so many Ukraine and asylum seekers placed in our county,’ 16/09/2024eputy Healy-Rae said.
“Sick people cannot get an appointment with their GP which is having serious implications especially for the elderly and children”, he remarked.
