COLOURFUL broadcaster George Hook has fallen line and sinker for a new television cookery series fronted by a flamboyant Killarney restaurateur.
The outspoken Newstalk presenter – also one of Ireland’s most contentious rugby pundits and social commentators – is a big fan of Cooking With Treyvaud which features on the new Irish TV channel.
The series, featuring the work, recipes and methods of Paul Treyvaud, involves several 30-minute episodes, screened over nine consecutive weeks, and the restaurant owner will follow that with the filming of a further 13 programmes at locations throughout Kerry.
In a major boost for its ratings, George Hook posted a video on YouTube in which he encourages viewers to tune in to the show.
Describing himself an “an old mate” of Treyvaud’s and a fan of his “smashing restaurant” in Killarney, he is impressed that Paul shares all his cooking secrets with viewers of the series.
“Bing Crosby once sang about how you can buy Killarney. Well, whatever about buying it, at least this will give you a sense of Killarney and Kerry,” Hook said.
The series is broadcast on Sky 191 and on Freesat 400 across Ireland and Europe. It is also screened through other mediums, including the PBS in America, and it will reach a worldwide audience of 100 million homes.
Irish TV is a round-the-clock service aimed at the Irish diaspora in North America, Europe and Britain. The company is headquartered in Westport, Co Mayo and it has staff in the 32 counties.
