Killarney Cycling Club News
It was another busy week for Killarney Cycling Club with the north and south of Ireland covered by Killarney Cycling Club racers.
Five senior riders – Tim O’Regan, Richard Maes, Conor Kissane, Marcus Treacy and John Brosnan – took to the hills of Co Down over the weekend for the Victus Tour of Ulster and had some outstanding results.
After three gruelling stages over a total 458 km with 5342m of climbing, during the three days, Richard Maes claimed 10th place on two of the stages and Conor Kissane claimed 11th place on the last stage.
Four senior riders also competed over the weekend in the Kanturk 2-Day event. The races were dictated by a time trial so made for difficult racing with no TT specialists representing the club. Mike Kissane did very well to finish in a strong field of A4s each day and a number of teams had travelled from Galway and Donegal to make the racing very competitive as they wanted to collect points.

In the A2/A3 race, Killarney had three riders representing Killarney Cycling Club, Patrick Clifford, Richard O’Brien and John Blackwell. The Nicholas Roche team rode very strongly and won all four stages, dominating every race, making for a very hard three days. Richard is coming into form and is looking strong for the season ahead.

John Blackwell showed his experience by getting into a breakaway for stage three but, unfortunately, it didn’t stick. Patrick finished 12th on Stage 1 but the rest of the days there was just bunch finishes. He is holding good form leading up to the Rás Tailteann.
In the juniors, Adam Lenihan was the only youth rider flying the Pink and Green for Killarney Cycling Club, also competing in theKanturk 2-Day event over the weekend.
On the Saturday he took eighth in the road race and ninth in the TT in under 14s category, and rode a very fine race on the Sunday, in a really strong field of U14S, taking thirrd place. His placing also saw him move up the GC to finish in Kanturk sixth overall. No doubt we’ll be seeing a lot more from this fine athlete.
