It was the day that three brothers could have been described as tree brothers.
Corry, Rory and Patsy O’Flaherty – members of a well-known Killarney family – all donned their yellow bibs and volunteered their services to keep Killarney Looking Good.
They answered the call on Saturday and turned out for a major planting of hundreds naïve hedge samplings along the busy Hans Liebherr Road.
Organised by the Killarney Tidy Towns group, the work got underway at 8.00am and it continued for a number of hours with an emphasis on native hedge species including rowan, birch, whitethorn and blackthorn.
The project was undertaken to coincide with National Tree Week and a part as Killarney’s overall biodiversity strategy.
It’s all part of Killarney’s determined campaign to win the overall award in this year’s national Tidy Towns competition having been just a single mark behind the 2023 winner Abbeyleix.
