Billy’s jewel is again in full Bloom

Billy Alexander, Kells Bay House and Gardens, received his award from Kerrie Gardiner, Show Garden and Horticultural Content Manager for Bord Bia Bloom

The striking Kells Bay House and Gardens has won a gold medal in the plant nursery category at the Bloom Festival which is currently underway in Dublin.

Billy Alexander triumphed at the big event despite judges acknowledging that it has been difficult year for every grower, with so much rain and not much light.

A total of 38 medals – 11 gold, 14 silver-gilt, nine silver and four bronze– were awarded to show garden designers and four gold medals were approved for plant nurseries on the opening morning of Bord Bia Bloom 2024 loom, which takes place across 70-acres in the Phoenix Park.

The spectacular gardening event is a great coming together for garden designers, flower growers, landscapers, plantaholics, garden-furniture makers, food fanatics and anyone who loves to garden.

Earlier this year the Royal Horticultural Society awarded the prestigious Lawrence Medal to Billy Alexander for his gold medal and best in great pavilion winning exhibit, The Ferns of Kells Bay Gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023.

The Lawrence Medal is awarded for the best exhibit shown to the society during the year and it is the highest honour an exhibitor can receive for their display.

Billy also won a Chelsea Gold Medal in 2021 and this is his first time to receive the Lawrence Medal.
