BEHIND the full-faced helmets and head-to-toe leather attire, a group of Killarney bikers has been busy plotting a big charity event to raise funds for a very worthy cause.
The Killarney Bikers and Friends group members have their bikes in gear to line up behind the Heart of Killarney organisation and the Michael Linehan Heartsafe Group in a bid to save lives.
They are organising a fun-filled motorcycle treasure hunt and raffle to help provide a specialist defibrillator for the parish of Fossa.
The bikers hope their fundraising drive can help acquire an AED in a phone box, similar to that recently set up on Main Street, Killarney.
The town centre defibrillator kiosk was the first of its kind in the country and the hope is to roll out the project at a national level to ensure fast access to an AED in the event of it being needed.
The treasure hunt will start from the Golden Nugget pub in Fossa on Sunday, February 26 and full details will be available shortly.
The cost of purchasing and installing an AED within a phone kiosk exceeds €3,000 and the group also hopes to raise sufficient funds to organise community training in the use of the AED and CPR.
The bikers are asking business owners who have connections to the greater Fossa area for support in helping them to reach this target.
“We understand businesses are being approached for donations constantly but we would be grateful for any size donation to this great cause,” spokesperson Barbara O’Sullivan said.
Donations can be sent to Barbara O’Sullivan, Treasurer, Killarney Bikers and Friends, 37 Lackabane Village, Fossa Killarney. All donations will receive a receipt from the Heartsafe charity.
